This technical assistance package contains a collection of virtual event recordings and written resources prepared by both ASTHO and the Tobacco Control Network, the ASTHO peer network that serves health agency tobacco control programs and their partners. These resources contain evidence-based recommendations, federal and state regulatory updates, and implementation case studies to assist public health professionals in doing impactful tobacco control work amidst recent challenges in the public health space. This package also highlights relevant written resources and virtual events from partners specializing in tobacco control, public health policy, and health equity advocacy. Emerging challenges addressed by these resources include the intersection of COVID-19 and tobacco cessation and flavored tobacco product regulation and policy, both of which have significant health equity implications.

This ASTHOConnects webinar featured three panelists: Marcus Plescia, ASTHO’s chief medical officer; Clinton Isham, a tribal relations consultant for the Americans for Nonsmokers’ Rights Foundation; and Jennifer Kreslake, director at the Schroeder Institute at Truth Initiative. While the COVID-19 response has strained tobacco prevention and control efforts, the pandemic has afforded health officials unique opportunities to retool their tobacco prevention response.
