This program seeks to strengthen public health communication through meeting real-time COVID-19 pandemic communication needs, focusing on health literacy, culture, and diversity needs; rapidly deploying health communication education and training to PIOs, PAO, and other health communicators throughout the public health system, primarily at the state level; providing technical assistance to jurisdictions as needed to support their challenges; and enhancing channels for effectively and rapidly disseminating emergency communication messages in collaboration with CDC, HHS and other partners. These projects will help ensure that public health departments reach diverse, hard-to-reach audiences and the project outcomes will maximize public trust in public health. Funding for this project was provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Office of the Associate Director for Communication and National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases.

Lunch and Learn #2: Rebuilding Trust
Lunch and Learn #2 - Recorded Training Video
Open to view video.
Open to view video. Restoring trust in public health, particularly among underrepresented populations is incredibly important, now more than ever. But, work of this kind is seldom best accomplished through broad government messaging or media reports. It requires a boots-on-the-ground approach that begins by earning the trust of leaders within these communities. Hear from former and current public health PIOs as they discuss their successes, challenges, and best practices in engaging with their communities, and building (or rebuilding) trust in public health.
