The Tobacco Control Network (TCN) hosted a three-part Virtual Workshop Series on tobacco retail marketing that highlighted how the four workforce development themes identified through the 2017 Public Health Workforce Interests and Needs Survey (PH WINS) can be used to inform tobacco retail marketing training needs for public health agency executive leadership and programmatic staff. The three-part series features lessons learned from internationally-known and nationally acclaimed tobacco control advocate, LaTanisha Wright.

LaTanisha Wright- CEO, public speaker, and author - is an internationally known, nationally acclaimed Tobacco Control and Anti-Bullying Advocate. From 2011-2013, Ms. Wright served as the tobacco subject matter expert and public health advisor for the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Division of Community Health, as well as a senior consultant with the CDC’s Office of Smoking & Health. Ms. Wright has been described as one of the foremost experts on predatory tobacco industry retail marketing tactics. She has trained tens-of-thousands of tobacco control advocates representing global, federal, state, and local agencies with diverse tobacco control objectives that serve various communities.

The second session features a discussion on how product placement differs by socioeconomic status, the tactical placement of advertising at retail and how advertising items are used to increase youth access to tobacco products. Ms. Wright will overview the health hazards of nicotine, menthol, and other flavors.
